Penske Penalized: Newgarden and Power to Embark on Thrilling Indy 500 Chase from the Back of the Pack

Team Penske’s Josef Newgarden and Will Power have been placed at the back row for the Indianapolis 500 due to an illegal car modification issue detected during qualifying.

Newgarden and Power were removed from the Fast 12 session on Sunday after a problem with Newgarden’s rear attenuator was discovered, which was also found in Power’s car.

Despite attempts to rectify the issue, the modifications were not permitted, leading to their disqualification from pole contention, claimed by Robert Shwartzman.

IndyCar officials decided to move Newgarden to 32nd and Power to 33rd, issuing a $100,000 fine to each entry and suspending their strategists.

IndyCar emphasized the importance of upholding the integrity of the Indianapolis 500 and fair competition, ensuring that the sport remains competitive and just for all participants.
